HTC Supersonic Could Run Android OS 3.0

Earlier this week came the first word of the HTC Supersonic,  which will reportedly have a 4.3-inch screen and support for Sprint’s WiMAX service. Very few details are available on this model, though.

However, a follow-up report revealed an additional detail: the HTC Supersonic will be one of the first with Android OS 3.0. If this is true, it means the launch probably isn’t coming any time soon. Version 2.1 of Google’s mobile operating system was just released a few weeks ago, so it will almost certainly be many months before any devices based on version 3.0 are on the market.

Of course, this assumes that the unconfirmed report that the Supersonic will be based on Android OS 3.0 is correct.

A Preliminary Overview of the HTC Supersonic
A roadmap of 2010 products that leaked out of Sprint recently listed an HTC model with WiMAX, but gave no other specifications. A second unconfirmed report revealed some additional details on it, though.

This model will supposedly have much in common with the HTC HD2, but with Google’s Android OS instead of Microsoft’s Windows Mobile. Most notably, both models will have 4.3-inch touchscreens and slim tablet shapes.

It’s not yet known yet if the Supersonic will have a 1 GHz Snapdragon processor like the current model, but there’s evidence to suggest that it will.

In addition, the upcoming smartphone will supposedly offer something not in the current one: the 4G networking standard WiMAX.

It will reportedly have a stand to hold it up while the user is watching movies on the comparatively large screen, as well as HTC Sense, this company’s alternate user interface that expends on Google’s standard one.

Many details on the Supersonic, such as the camera resolution or battery capacity, remain unknown.
